SFNET Honors Accord Financial Board Member in Inaugural Hall of Fame Ceremony
On September 3, 2019 The Secured Finance Network (SFNET)—formerly the Commercial Finance Association (CFA)—announced its Inaugural “Hall Of Fame" award winners, which includes Accord Financial Board member, Robert Sandler.
Accord is incredibly proud that Mr. Sandler will be honored at this event, but as you can see in his bio below, it’s no surprise that he was nominated.
Mr. Robert Sandler has a lifetime of deep experience and leadership in the commercial finance field. Capping a long career in the industry, from 1978 to 2001, Robert served as Executive Vice-President of HSBC Business Credit (USA).
In 2000, Robert served as the Chairman of the Commercial Finance Association. He is very involved with the Education Foundation—working to increase the involvement of service providers and educate the next generation of leaders within the industry.
Since 2002, Robert has put his experience as a lender to work by advising and consulting on a variety of projects.
Robert was appointed a Director of Accord Financial Corporation on October 26, 2010—and currently serves on the Board’s Credit Committee and Compensation Committee.
When asked for a quote about Robert, Ken Hitzig, former Accord CEO and current Chairman of the Board, joked, “Bob, one of your associates told me that the reason you worked for so many factors is that having been born in the 19th Century, you had the time to try most of them!”
Robert has also been an avid cyclist for decades. In 1970, he and fellow riders founded the County Cycle Club, which is now the Westchester Cycle Club with 1,500 members. In the summer of 2000, he went to his local drug store, and on the counter lay a brochure for the National MS Society with information about a fundraiser ride across the beautiful Hudson River. “I thought that it would be a wonderful way to honor my niece, who was dealing with MS for a number of years, raise some funds for MS and ride across the iconic Tappan Zee Bridge. So, I signed up,” Sandler explained. Eighteen years later—riding every year—Robert has raised more than $400,000 to support inpatient care and research to end muscular sclerosis.
Mr. Sandler holds a B.S. from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and attended the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University.
SFNET is celebrating its 75th anniversary, and in conjunction with their annual conference in New York City (November 13–15), the organization will honor this inaugural group of the Lifetime Achievement Award winners Tuesday, November 12 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.
The invitation-only reception and awards ceremony will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by a private dinner for the winners and their guests. Click here for more information about this event and to see the entire list inductees.
